Are we Alone? Milky Way from Stokesay Castle

Are we Alone? Milky Way from Stokesay Castle

As we enter the summer months our thoughts turn to holidays and a much deserved break! However, us astronomers think slightly different. Our attention turns to the return of Milky Way. Although visible all year round the summer Milky Way allows astronomers to look towards the core of the Galaxy. Here we find a marvellous display of stars, dark nebula, star clouds and just pure joy! The picture below shows the planet Saturn in centre and the stars of the Milky Way behind in the constellation of Ophiuchus. It is an amazing site and one that can be seen from any dark location. If you’d like to take pictures of the Milky Way then why not join astronomers from Dark Sky Wales on one of our organised evenings.
